“Like with many things in life, it all started with a dream.”

We’ve had quite a few musicians play on Sonny’s Porch in our time but having Fat Tony on deck was unlike anything we’d ever seen before.

For starters, we’ve never had a rapper roll through. But we’ve also never had an artist play their entire album for us before. ‘Exotica’ was unconventional and one-of-a-kind from start to finish. It was like listening to a series of short stories orchestrated by hypnotic, experimental sound. Not sure what was more impressive: the story of his thrifted 1976 election T-Shirt or the fact that he knew all the lyrics to Bad Brains "Banned in D.C.", but one thing’s for certain - Fat Tony is a music wizard.

Fat Tony on Sonny's Porch

His style is hip hop, a little punk, and yet simultaneously un-categorical—and that's what we love about him. His extensive knowledge of music blew us away. From classical to Motown, he’s heard it, studied it, and has found a unique way of letting it flow into everything he creates.

He propped up the ‘Exotica’ album art onto an easel on the porch, grabbed his mic, and started the show.
